Understanding Black history helps young people see the full picture of our shared past. It builds respect, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for the contributions and struggles that shaped our society.
Representation matters—when youth learn about Black leaders, innovators, and heroes, they see what’s possible. It empowers them to dream bigger and walk confidently in their own identities
Teaching Black history counters stereotypes and challenges misinformation. It fosters critical thinking and encourages students to question incomplete narratives
Black history is American history, and it belongs in every classroom and conversation. Learning it helps young people become more informed, inclusive, and socially responsible citizens.
By connecting youth to the legacy of Black excellence, we honor those who paved the way. It inspires them to carry that legacy forward and become changemakers in their own right.
Teachers and school officials contact us at ( (650) 921-4191 ) or email us info@hoskinsblackhistorymuseum.org to schedule your tour.
Thanks to Senator Josh Becker, for negotiating funding to help us establish a permanent home for our work in the community. We are also grateful to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors for their support of our work in the community, and to San Mateo Event Center for serving as our fiscal agent for the funding from the State of California. There is much to do as we shift gears to find a permanent home and we are excited to shift from having pop-up exhibits to being able to offer events and activities year-round that celebrate Black culture and history within our community
Help us with supplies and educational materials. In addition to our Black History Month and San Mateo County Fair exhibits, schools, community organizations, senior groups, nursing programs, and corporate DEI groups have joined us in learning more about Black History.
